European polyamide demand isn't just shrinking. It's moving.

The headline numbers look flat to slightly down. Underneath, the market is splitting in two.

Where PA is growing to 2030:

→ New-energy E&E: EV charging, battery storage, hydrogen, PV and data-centre connectors. Small today, but the fastest-growing pocket in our model.

→ High-heat grades in EVs: HTN-PPA is pulled in by busbars and HV connectors.

→ Bio-PA in electronics, driven by Scope-3 sourcing pressure.

→ Pumps and heating, 3D printing and smart water meters.

Where it's shrinking:

→ Power tools, as corded housings fade and production moves east.

→ Packaging film, still the biggest volume loss of any segment.

→ ICE fuel and brake lines, eroding as the fleet electrifies.

→ Office furniture, cable ties and terminal blocks, under pressure from hybrid working and imports.

The takeaway: the volume being lost sits in large, mature segments. The volume being gained sits in smaller, technically demanding niches, often in PA66 and specialty grades rather than commodity PA6.

For producers and compounders, the question isn't "is demand coming back?" It's "are we positioned where it's going?"
